COMPARE:
Calendly or Cal.com for booking meetings
A straight comparison of Calendly and Cal.com for letting people book time without the back and forth, answered on the same seven dimensions as every other compare page here. Mamba Labs builds Apify actors, and neither of these is one of them, so there is no third column on this page.
The verdict
Calendly is the one everybody recognizes and the one that charges per seat for the features a team needs. Cal.com does the same job, is free for one person, and can be run on your own infrastructure.
The same questions, both tools
| Calendly | Cal.com | |
|---|---|---|
| What it actually does | Publishes a booking page against your calendar and holds the slot when somebody picks one. | Publishes booking pages against your calendars, with the whole codebase available to change. |
| Coverage and hit rate | Round robin, collective events, routing forms, reminders and payment collection. | Round robin, teams, routing forms, payments, and an app store of its own for the rest. |
| What it costs | Per seat per month in tiers, with routing and workflows held to the higher ones. | Free for an individual, per seat for teams, and nothing but hosting if you run it yourself. |
| How it fits a workflow | Deep integrations into the CRMs and the conferencing tools, plus an API and webhooks. | An API, webhooks, embeddable widgets, and the option to fork it when a workflow does not fit. |
| Where the data comes from | Your calendar. Nothing else is stored that you did not put there. | Your calendar, on infrastructure you can choose to own. |
| What it takes to set up | Connect a calendar and share the link. Minutes. | Hosted is minutes. Self hosted is a deployment with a database behind it. |
| Where it stops | The features a sales team actually needs sit two tiers up, per seat. | Fewer polished integrations than the incumbent, and self hosting is a thing you now maintain. |
The same seven questions are asked on every compare page here, in this order, so two of these pages can be read against each other.
What each is actually better at
- Calendly wins on how it fits a workflow, what it takes to set up. The default scheduling link, with the routing and workflow features sold above it.
- Cal.com wins on what it costs, where the data comes from. An open source scheduler you can host yourself or buy hosted.
- Nobody wins on what it actually does, coverage and hit rate, where it stops. Calendly and Cal.com give the same answer on those, and we are not going to invent a difference.
Both products
What is best for you
For an individual, Cal.com is free and does everything Calendly's paid tier does, so the only argument for Calendly is that recipients know the brand. For a sales team, look at what routing and workflows cost per seat per year before assuming the incumbent. Cal.com self hosted is genuinely cheaper and genuinely something you now maintain, which is a fair trade only if somebody is going to. The integration depth still favors Calendly in the places where a CRM has to be written to.
