COMPARE:
Granola or Fathom for notes that reach the CRM
A straight comparison of Granola and Fathom for getting meeting notes into the systems that need them, answered on the same seven dimensions as every other compare page here. Mamba Labs builds Apify actors. We have nothing of our own in this category, so this page is two products and no pitch.
If you only read one part
Fathom is built to write the call into your CRM and its free plan is unusually generous. Granola is built to make your own notes good. Sales teams want the first and most other people want the second.
The same questions, both tools
| Granola | Fathom | |
|---|---|---|
| What it actually does | Records the meeting audio on your machine and turns your own rough notes into a finished set. | Records and transcribes the call, then writes the summary and the follow up email from it. |
| Coverage and hit rate | Any audio your Mac can hear, so it covers a call on any platform without joining it. | The main video platforms through a bot, with playlists and clip sharing on top of the recording. |
| What it costs | Per seat per month, with a free tier limited by how many meetings it will process. | Free for individual recording and summaries, with team features and CRM sync on paid seats. |
| How it fits a workflow | It sits over whatever is on screen. Notes export to the usual documents and the API is new. | It writes into the CRM directly, which is the part of the product it is really selling. |
| Where the data comes from | The audio and your typing. Nothing is fetched from a calendar integration to fill gaps. | The recorded call audio and video. |
| What it takes to set up | Install it and grant the microphone permission. Nothing else. | Connect the calendar and the CRM. Under an hour. |
| Where it stops | Mac first, and there is no bot to send to a meeting you are not personally attending. | The bot has to be in the meeting, and the free plan holds the team features back. |
The same seven questions are asked on every compare page here, in this order, so two of these pages can be read against each other.
Who wins what
- Granola wins on what it actually does, where the data comes from. A Mac notepad that listens to the call and writes the notes around what you typed.
- Fathom wins on what it costs, how it fits a workflow. A meeting recorder built around CRM follow up, with a generous free plan.
- Nobody wins on coverage and hit rate, what it takes to set up, where it stops. Granola and Fathom give the same answer on those, and we are not going to invent a difference.

What is best for you
For a sales team, Fathom is the stronger answer because the value is the CRM write and the follow up email, not the notes themselves. For founders, consultants and anyone whose meetings are not deals, Granola produces something you would actually read again a month later. Fathom's free tier is real and worth testing before paying for anything. The bot question applies here too, and it applies harder in sales calls than anywhere else.
