The verdict
Squarespace is the all in one with the best templates and the most built in features. Pagecloud is the builder that lets you put anything anywhere and edit with a client. Pick Squarespace for a polished site fast and Pagecloud for a custom layout.
Dimension by dimension
| Pagecloud | Squarespace | |
|---|---|---|
| What it actually does | Builds a small business website with free placement drag and drop, plus forms, ecommerce and hosting. | Builds and hosts a polished website from a template, with a store, bookings and email campaigns on the same account. |
| Coverage and hit rate | Websites, simple stores, forms and a blog, with real time collaboration for a team or a client. | Websites, ecommerce, appointments, memberships, email campaigns and domains, all from one dashboard. |
| What it costs | Per site per month in tiers, with ecommerce and team seats on the higher ones. | Per site per month in tiers, billed annually for the lowest price, with commerce on the higher plans. |
| How it fits a workflow | Drag elements anywhere, invite a client to edit, publish. Agencies run client sites from one account. | Section based editing inside a template. Fast for a good looking result and firm about its layout grid. |
| Where the data comes from | Its own templates and app integrations, plus your own content. | Its own templates and built in features, plus your own content. |
| What it takes to set up | An afternoon from a template. The free placement makes a custom layout faster than a grid builder. | A day. Pick a template, replace the content, connect the domain. |
| Where it stops | A smaller template and app ecosystem, and a store past a few dozen products wants a dedicated platform. | The grid decides more of the layout than you do, and moving off it later means a rebuild. |
The same seven questions are asked on every compare page here, in this order, so two of these pages can be read against each other.
Where each one genuinely wins
- Pagecloud wins on how it fits a workflow, what it takes to set up. A drag and drop website builder for small businesses that lets you place anything anywhere on the page.
- Squarespace wins on what it actually does, coverage and hit rate, where the data comes from. An all in one website builder with designer templates, commerce, scheduling and email marketing.
- Nobody wins on what it costs, where it stops. Pagecloud and Squarespace give the same answer on those, and we are not going to invent a difference.
Both products
What we would actually do
Most small businesses should start on Squarespace, because the templates look good on day one and the store, bookings and email are already in the box. Pagecloud is the better choice for a designer or agency building client sites. The free placement editor and real time collaboration make a custom layout and a client handover easier. Neither is the right base for a large store or a site that needs custom code. Check the export options before you build, because leaving either one means a rebuild.
