COMPARE:

WhatConverts or Amplitude for what marketing works

WhatConverts against Amplitude for working out which marketing produced the revenue, with the same seven questions asked of each and neither one flattered. Mamba Labs builds Apify actors. We have nothing of our own in this category, so this page is two products and no pitch.

The short answer

WhatConverts answers where the lead came from, phone calls included. Amplitude answers what they did after they signed up. Different halves of the same sentence.

The same questions, both tools

WhatConvertsAmplitude
What it actually doesAttributes every inbound lead, including phone calls, to the marketing that produced it.Records product events and answers questions about retention, funnels and which behaviour predicts a renewal.
Coverage and hit rateCalls, forms, chats and transactions, with dynamic number insertion doing the call half.Deep on in product behaviour, with cohorts, funnels and experimentation on the same event stream.
What it costsPer month by tracked lead volume, with a per number charge for the call tracking.By monthly tracked users on the paid tiers, with a free tier that is genuinely usable.
How it fits a workflowA script on the site, numbers provisioned, then a feed into the CRM and the ad platforms. An SDK in the product, a tracking plan, and a warehouse sync for the analysis you cannot do in it.
Where the data comes fromYour own site traffic and your own phone lines. It reads no third party data about a person.Events your own product sends. Nothing about a person arrives from outside.
What it takes to set upA day or two. Number provisioning and the ad platform links are the slow parts.Weeks, honestly. The tracking plan is the work and skipping it is how these deployments fail.
Where it stopsIt is about acquisition. What a customer does after they sign up is not in it.It starts at the signup. Which advert or which phone call produced the account is not its question.

The same seven questions are asked on every compare page here, in this order, so two of these pages can be read against each other.

Where each one genuinely wins

  • WhatConverts wins on what it actually does, how it fits a workflow, what it takes to set up. Tracks a call, a form and a chat back to the ad, the keyword and the campaign that caused it.
  • Amplitude wins on coverage and hit rate, what it costs, where the data comes from, where it stops. Product analytics for what people do inside the product after they arrive.

What we would actually do

These two get compared because both promise to tell you what is working, and they answer different questions. If a real share of your leads arrive by phone, no product analytics tool will ever see them. WhatConverts is the only one of the two that closes that gap. If you are a self serve product where signup is the start rather than the end, Amplitude is the one that matters and call tracking is irrelevant. A team that needs both usually needs WhatConverts first, because you cannot optimise the acquisition you cannot see, and Amplitude's free tier will hold you for a while.
