COMPARE:
Keap or ActiveCampaign for small business automation
A straight comparison of Keap and ActiveCampaign for running follow up and sales for a small business, answered on the same seven dimensions as every other compare page here. Mamba Labs builds Apify actors. We have nothing of our own in this category, so this page is two products and no pitch.

The verdict
Keap is a CRM that also invoices and takes payments. ActiveCampaign is email automation with a CRM bolted on. A service business that bills from its CRM wants Keap, and a business that sells through email wants ActiveCampaign.
Dimension by dimension
| Keap | ActiveCampaign | |
|---|---|---|
| What it actually does | Holds contacts and a pipeline, runs follow up automations, and takes payments and invoices for a small business. | Sends email marketing and runs automations triggered by what a contact does, with a sales CRM as an add on. |
| Coverage and hit rate | CRM, email automation, landing pages, appointments, quotes, invoices and payments in one product. | Email, automation, SMS, site tracking and a sales pipeline, with hundreds of native integrations. |
| What it costs | Per month in tiers set by contact count and users, with onboarding sold as part of the plan. | Per month by contact count in tiers, with the CRM features on the higher plans. |
| How it fits a workflow | A visual campaign builder for follow up, with payments and booking wired to the same contact record. | The automation builder is the product, and it connects to most of the tools a small marketing team runs. |
| Where the data comes from | Your own contacts. It sells no data. | Your own contacts and the site behavior it tracks on them. |
| What it takes to set up | A few weeks for the automations, which is why it sells coaching alongside the software. | A day for the basics. The deep automations take as long as you let them. |
| Where it stops | The email builder and reporting trail the specialists, and the price climbs quickly with contact count. | There are no invoices or payments, so a business that bills from its CRM needs another tool for that. |
The same seven questions are asked on every compare page here, in this order, so two of these pages can be read against each other.
Who wins what
- Keap wins on coverage and hit rate, how it fits a workflow. A small business CRM with automation, invoicing and payments in the same account.
- ActiveCampaign wins on what it actually does, what it costs, where it stops. Email marketing automation with a CRM attached, built around the automation builder.
- Nobody wins on where the data comes from, what it takes to set up. Keap and ActiveCampaign give the same answer on those, and we are not going to invent a difference.

What is best for you
If you run a service business and want the quote, the invoice, the payment and the follow up on the same contact, Keap is the one tool that does all of it. You will pay for that and you will spend weeks on the automations. If what drives revenue is email to a growing list, ActiveCampaign has the better automation builder, the better emails and the gentler price at the same contact count. Count your contacts in a year rather than today, because both bills climb with the list.
