The problem
Sponsorship scouting for mid tier influencers the shortcuts stop working, for one specific reason. What catches people out on mid tier influencers, sponsorship scouting included: the creator you pitch and the person who negotiates are different, and the manager sets the rate. There is 1 runnable example of sponsorship scouting for mid tier influencers below.
What is at stake
Every brand in the category is pitching the same visible handful of mid tier influencers, and their rates show it.
Traditional Search Tools
- Talent agency rosters, for mid tier influencers. Public on the agency sites, and they tell you who to email.
- Modash. A large searchable creator database across Instagram, TikTok and YouTube with audience filters. Strong discovery, sold on a monthly subscription that suits a team running campaigns every month.
- TikTok One and the other platform marketplaces. Official, free to browse, and limited to creators who opted in. The ones who did not sign up are invisible there.
- An influencer agency. They bring a roster and the relationships, and charge a retainer or a share of the fee. Worth it for a launch, expensive as a standing way to find people.
- Search the platforms yourself. Type the niche into TikTok, Instagram and YouTube search, open every profile that looks right, and copy the handle and follower count into a sheet. About three minutes a creator, and the results depend on what each app decides to show you.
