Where this starts
Many software companies run a public feature board where customers vote on requests. It is a list of unmet needs ranked by demand, written by the users. For a competitor it shows weaknesses. For an integration partner it shows which connections customers want. Finding the board and reading the top requests is quick for one company and tedious for fifty.
Traditional Search Tools
- Review sites. G2 and Capterra reviews carry complaints and wishes. They are harder to rank because nobody votes on them.
- Customer interviews. The richest source and the slowest. They tell you what your own customers want, not what a competitor's do.
- Find the board and read it. Look for a feedback or roadmap link in the help center and sort by votes. Ten minutes per company once you know where boards hide.
