USE CASE:

Finding out whether a website meets accessibility rules

Everything below is about finding out whether a website meets accessibility rules, and about which accessibility audits method holds up on a list rather than one record. Mamba Labs writes Apify actors for this kind of work, and WCAG Accessibility Audit is the one aimed at accessibility audits.

What is actually going wrong

The European Accessibility Act now applies to many businesses selling online in the EU, and most of their sites have never been tested. An agency pitching remediation needs to know which prospects fail and how badly. An in house team needs a baseline before the lawyers ask. Either way the answer has to come from the rendered page, not a guess from the homepage design.

Traditional Search Tools

  • Siteimprove or Level Access. Enterprise platforms with monitoring, reporting and remediation workflows. Built for an organization fixing its own estate on a yearly contract.
  • Lighthouse in Chrome. Free and already installed. Its accessibility score is a useful smoke test, and it checks fewer rules than a dedicated audit.
  • Run a checker page by page. Open each site with the axe or WAVE browser extension and note the violations. Free and credible. It covers one page per run, so a list of eighty domains is a long week.

Mamba Labs Apify Actors
