The situation
Domain age is a fraud signal, a sign of how established a business is, and a check on whether a lookalike domain is new. Expiry dates matter for anyone managing a portfolio. Registrar and nameservers tell you who controls it. One lookup is trivial. A list of thousands means rate limits and inconsistent formats across registries.
Traditional Search Tools
- WhoisXML and DomainTools. Comprehensive with history and bulk access. Priced per query or as security subscriptions.
- The command line. The whois command is free and fast. Output formats vary by registry, so parsing a large list is its own small project.
- A WHOIS lookup site. Paste each domain into a lookup site and copy the dates. Fine for ten domains. Many sites rate limit and hide data behind a captcha.
