USE CASE:

Building a list of local businesses in one place

This page is about building a list of local businesses in one place: what your options are for local leads, what each costs, and the one we would use. We are Mamba Labs, we build Apify actors, and Local Business Lead Builder is ours for local leads.

The problem

Dentists in Austin, roofers in Leeds, salons in Melbourne. Local service businesses are a huge market for software and agencies, and almost none of them appear in B2B databases. They are all on Google Maps, with a phone number, a website and a rating. Copying them out by hand is the reason most local lists stop at fifty rows.

Traditional Search Tools

  • The Google Places service. Official and accurate, with a developer key and per request billing. Building the pagination and the export is your job.
  • Local list brokers. Data Axle and similar sell local business lists by category. Broad coverage, and the phone and website fields go stale faster than the maps do.
  • Yelp or industry directories. Strong for restaurants and trades in some countries. Coverage drops sharply once you leave those categories.
  • Copy from the map. Search the category and place, open each listing and paste the details into a sheet. About a minute per business. The map shows a limited set per search, so you repeat it by neighborhood.

Mamba Labs Apify Actors

These are the actors we built for this job. If yours is not covered here, search from the bar at the top of the page or contact us here and tell us what you need.
