COMPARE:

cloro or SerpApi for AI search results as data

cloro and SerpApi both do reading what the search engines and the AI answer engines return, as data, and this page puts them on the same seven questions. Mamba Labs builds Apify actors. We have nothing of our own in this category, so this page is two products and no pitch.

The short answer

SerpApi is the mature choice for classic search results across many engines, with parsed schemas and years of edge cases handled. cloro is the one that also returns what ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini say, with citations. If the AI engines are the point, cloro.

Side by side

cloroSerpApi
What it actually doesRuns a query against Google and against ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and the rest, and returns the answers and citations as data.Runs a query against a named engine and returns a structured result set with the page elements parsed out.
Coverage and hit rateThe classic search engines and the AI answer engines in one API, with the sources each answer cited.Google, Bing, Baidu, YouTube, Amazon, Google Jobs, Google Maps and a long tail of others.
What it costsPer request, in monthly credit plans, with the AI engines costing more per request than a Google result.Per successful search in monthly plans, and a failed search is not billed.
How it fits a workflowAn API you call from your own code or a scheduled job. There is no dashboard that does the tracking for you.One endpoint per engine, official libraries, and a playground that shows the schema before you write code.
Where the data comes fromLive results from each engine at the moment of the request, which is the only honest way to measure an AI answer. The engines themselves, fetched live, with legal shielding stated as part of the product.
What it takes to set upAn API key and a first request in minutes. Building the tracker on top of it is your project.A key and a call, plus reading the schema for whichever engine you picked.
Where it stopsIt is an API. If you want a report that says how visible your brand is, you are building that report.Several times the per query price of the cheap alternatives, which is the trade for the parsing.

The same seven questions are asked on every compare page here, in this order, so two of these pages can be read against each other.

Who wins what

  • cloro wins on coverage and hit rate, what it costs, where the data comes from. One search API across Google and the AI answer engines, built for visibility tracking.
  • SerpApi wins on what it actually does, how it fits a workflow, what it takes to set up. A search API across many engines, with a parsed schema for each one.
  • Nobody wins on where it stops. cloro and SerpApi give the same answer there, and we are not going to invent a difference.

What is best for you

If you need Google, Bing, Maps or shopping results as structured data, SerpApi has done it longer and the parsing shows it. If you are building an AI visibility tracker, SerpApi does not answer the question and cloro does, because the AI answer with its citations is the thing you are measuring. Both are APIs, so the dashboard is your job either way. Sampling matters more than the vendor: an AI engine gives different answers to the same prompt, and one call a day per prompt is noise, not a trend.
